I wanted to draw Jack’s hair a little different this time. I sometimes draw his hair tucked behind his ears, but his ears are usually hidden.

I have noticed my tendency to show panels with hands handing things over, or reaching for other hands, even hand on hand violence (not shown).

I’ve talked before about one of my goals/rules for my comic was to not shy away from drawing hands, or even change poses to avoid drawing hands. If there is a hand I’m fighting to draw, it will cause me to work extra hard so it won’t end up looking like a smashed crab. Even after 500+ pages so far, I don’t think I’ll ever stop struggling to draw hands.

Though I have a physical hand model I can pose, I still fight to might them look decent. This reference was used for Jack’s hand in today’s page.

May’s Sketches” was posted earlier this week. My challenge was to create the sketches using one CSP brush, but toggling off and on different settings (Color Mixing, Spraying Effect, so on) when needed. This same brush has also become my main inking pen for my comic pages. It gives a nice organic texture/feel to my lineart, almost a crunchiness to the lines, much like how ink tends to bleed or catch on paper fibers.

Computer update: I rolled back my NVIDIA driver to the 595.97 version, right before the 596 update, and I haven’t had any issues since. But the fear of a crash remains. D:
