Free CSP Brushes?!

One thing I like doing is making brushes in Clip Studio Paint. I will make one that I deem perfect, only to make a copy of that one, tinker with it some more and BOOM! a new favorite brush. I’ve been drifting more towards brushes that feel like traditional, rather than digital these days. I like the imperfections of traditional. It feels more human and personal to me. But why release these brushes for free? Clip Studio Paint has some quirks. If someone has their pressure settings customized on their tablet or even in CSP, it can cause brushes to behave differently than I originally intended. I know that when I switch from my Grip Pen to my Art Pen on the Cintiq, all of my brushes will behave differently. So instead of selling brushes I’m not confident will work as intended for everyone, I offer them for free. Also, I do like finding free brushes randomly online, and this is me sharing that small joy.

My brushes can be found in two places at the moment. One is on my Ko-Fi store, and the other is on Patreon, within the Sketchbook Collections. Once a year is finished for each Sketchbook, I will compile them into one listing that will end up on my Ko-Fi page.

I almost forgot about Valentine’s Day this year. I was in a hurry to finish something that I only managed to finish a sketch.

Sketchy Booty

During Luke’s dream in Chapter 5, Jack took on the appearance of Luke’s handler. She also was the one on the phone with Luke in Chapter 6’s Epilogue. I was wanting to go for a Patrick Nagel-inspired look, though I don’t think I pulled it off. (Nagel’s style also inspired the look of the short-lived animated series, MOONBEAM CITY.)

♥ Valentine’s Day 2024 ♥

I had a difficult time coming up with a subject for this year’s Valentine’s Day image. I had some ideas, but they required much more time to create than I had. So I ended up thinking about a simple pinup style image, then that evolved into something more like an Art Nouveau inspired piece. (A 2x larger version was added to the $5+ tiers on Patreon.)

MONSTER SOUP: BISQUE


Ah, mermaids.

I’ve been thinking about this possible side story for a while now. (The 2022 Valentine’s image was a small hint.) The general idea is about a group of mermaids who gather in the island’s underground caverns once a year to… Basically have a party and tell stories about their adventures across the world. I’ve been brainstorming a lot about this recently, but aside from paragraphs of random ideas and possible scenes, I don’t have any characters really designed or scripts even started. Broad strokes are all I have at the moment, but it has begun to take some shape, more so than the original idea of “Oh! I want to do a mermaid story!”

(I plan to post more on this later as the side project moves forward.)

I had planned to draw a mini comic of Jack and his past polycule relationship, but that part of his story isn’t revealed until later in the current chapter (10). Vengari and Sol, however, have been hinted at having a relationship for a while now. It’s subtle, but more obvious in one of Toadie’s Comics.

Morella

I haven’t posted one of these in a while. If you follow me on Twitter, you may have seen this character posted back in November. In keeping with the whole food theme for names, I used “mozzarella” as inspiration. I also found out that “Morella” is the name of a short story by Edgar Allan Poe. Added with this knowledge, the name stuck.

When I’m working on a character, I tend to scribble out as many sketches as I can. While I’m sketching, I start to see scenes and other images with them. These concepts are a part of the process I love. Most likely, when she’s finally seen in the comic… *crickets* All right. I overwhelmed myself with the thought of everything I need to draw before she makes her debut. *sigh*
