THE STORY SO FAR: A zombie, witch, ghost, werewolf, and a vampire are sentenced to live in a castle. Unbeknownst to them, they all share the same incompetent lawyer and judge who seemed intent on sending them to the same castle.

MONSTER SOUP began late one night in 2010 as a simple sketch of a sad-looking zombie. Rather than turn the page and draw something else, Julie wanted to know more about this sad fellow. By morning, the groundwork for MONSTER SOUP was well underway. For the next year and a half, she continued to brainstorm, redesign characters, strengthen the plot, and gather her courage. While most of the concept work lives in several sketchbooks, the comic itself is all digital. Chapters 1-4 were created with Adobe Photoshop (panels, text, balloons, touch-ups) and Paint Tool SAI (roughs, inks, color). Halfway through Chapter 4, she switched to Clip Studio Paint EX. Other tools: a Wacom Intuos2 Bamboo Connect Surface Pro 4 Cintiq 22HD + Razer Tartarus Gaming Keypad (v2).

CREATOR: Julie is an independent author and artist. Self-taught in all things relating to art, her love for comics found its beginnings at the young age of eleven. She would sneak into her older brother’s room and dig through his massive collection of comics. Her favorites included X-Men, The Sandman, and his Heavy Metal magazines. To this day she managed to keep most of the Heavy Metal magazines. She loved how each comic had its own look and freedom within. It was a breath of fresh air when compared to the standard superhero comics from Marvel and DC. Though she is most known by friends and family for her realistic portraits, it is her love of comics and cartoons that truly fuels her passion for art.
