Page 52 – Vampires
The first panel… I didn’t want to drive myself into complete burnout by redrawing everything based on my 3D model, so I used the model instead (with a few touch-ups). I’ve read comments online about how this is “cheating” somehow, but fuck it. I don’t want to bow down to some strange sense of “artistic purity” by doing things the hard way. Time is finite, and I don’t want to spend 8 hours on one panel. I even remade my original ballroom model and imported it into Twinmotion to render. I have the technology, so I’m gonna to use it. This was actually needed. I have many more scenes that will take place in this room. The fewer things I need to completely redraw the better, I say. (It’s the backgrounds. It will always be those damn backgrounds.) And in this scene here, every panel has a background. x_x
I have taken a look at places like ACON for 3D models as a way to save time, but I can’t justify spending the money. So I end up scouring other sites for free assets. (Or I end up making the models myself.) I know a lot of webtoons use backgrounds like those from ACON without doing much of anything to them. For me, though, I like to redraw or even paint over mine. It’s something I noticed when looking at how some animated shows are produced. They sometimes have 3D backgrounds that are painted over to better fit the art style. But I then remind myself that they have a team of artists (not only on animated shows but some webcomics/webtoons have more than one person behind the scenes). I didn’t mean for this to get all “blah, blah, blah” but this has become a stream-of-consciousness paragraph.
“All webtoons are webcomics, but not all webcomics are webtoons”?
I’ve been thinking about making the BISQUE side comic in a webtoon style. I’ve been warming up to the format of scrolling comics and thought that it might be a good chance to dabble a little. (This was another random thought, not an idea set in stone.)
As of today, I’m working on the final page of this chapter. :D I thought about taking my typical one-month break as I begin working on the next Chapter, but I don’t know what I’ll post in the meantime. More Toadie Comics? Or something else? I don’t want it to be a month-long hiatus, that’s boring. :P *thinking cap installed* What to do…
