Page 68 – Follow Me
Chapter 7 is officially complete!
Some may remember Bazel from the previous chapter.
So this page took me 24+ hours to finish. As the creation of this chapter trudged along for me, I became increasingly frustrated at my speed. I’ve mentioned my frustrations in past commentary and on Twitter. I am now at a point where I want to produce this story faster and shake up the art a bit. My current process is too time consuming, and I know I can complete pages faster if I didn’t stress over everything. I have more fun with the sketching process and loose inking than I do with the final art that ends up on the page. Lately, I’ve been dabbling with a more painterly approach. It’s a new technique for me, but I really like the speed and the results. I have tried to loosen up my art in past pages, though those attempts ended with me reverting back to my old process. I also thought about a personal challenge for the next chapter. The rules would be limiting the layers (I haven’t settled on a number) and limiting my brush tools to maybe five. Hmmm, should I make it a five-five rule? Five layers and five tools? I could try that. My personal challenge from the past were actually fun.
I’m not sure how long it will be before Chapter 8 starts, but I plan to continue posting an update each week, whether it’s a sketch or other art, something will be posted!
