Page 22 – Who Are You?
Nothing really to talk about today. Let me think… Oh! I am starting my early search for a new drawing tablet/monitor. My main tablet (Cintiq 22HD) is having more issues lately. The ports where the cables attach have been getting finicky lately, and that caused the stylus to stop responding and the screen to flicker. The drivers, too, will suddenly stop working. There’s also a discoloration along the bottom of the screen that has been creeping up into the center. Then there has been the original main issue from a few years ago, and that was the faulty film on the glass. It started wearing down rapidly at some point, making it feel like I was drawing on sand paper. My solution there was to add a piece of tempered glass over the whole surface, and adhering it using some “alien tape.” While that made the monitor twice as heavy, it seemed to fix that issue. But deep scratches have already started to appear on this glass, as well. The glass was never meant to be used like this, but it served its purpose. :D
I reached out to Wacom about these issues and to see if it was possible to remove the original film on the screen, but they responded with this:

“If you’re still interested in our Wacom products…”
The link in their response sent me to their product page for the Cintiq 24 (which has the same film on its screen). This has led me to look at Huion or XP-Pen. Back when I was first dealing with the screen issue, I started looking at possible replacements then, but I stopped once I went with my tempered glass fix. But now, newer issues are cropping up. I’ll continue to use this Cintiq until I can no longer draw on it, yet I’m now keeping an eye out for a future replacement.
There are so many options out there these days: Huion, XP-Pen, and Xencelabs to name a few. What I am looking for is an etched glass screen, 4k, near perfect color accuracy, and at least 22″. (I am seeing screens with higher refresh rates, but that’s not a must.)
My YouTube algo served me a review of the Wacom Cintiq Pro 27. It has everything I want, but the price tag. $3,499. Daaaaaaamn! 💀 It’s a true professional drawing monitor, but I’m no professional. 😅
I’m now looking at an XP-Pen Artist Pro 24 (Gen2). It’s currently $769, and that’s well within my budget when I’m finally forced to get some new hardware.
Ah, there. Some commentary for today. I knew I could fill it up with something. D:
